Spyderco Endura Wave Review

The Spyderco Endura Wave is my daily carry knife. It currently rides in my front right pocket with the tip up.

Let me take a second to describe the “wave” feature for those not familiar with it. The wave was designed by Emerson and is designed to hook on the edge of your pocket and open the blade as you pull it out of your pocket. It does take some practice to get to work just right but once you get the hang of the process it becomes second nature. I’ll also add that it is also easy to take it out of your pocket with out opening it in the process. It is always nice to have the option of being discrete.

I have had this knife for about three years now and have carried it almost everyday. I tried switching it out for several other knives but always came back to it. I really like the thicker VG10 blade compared to some of the thinner blades on several of the Benchmades I have tried. I am also a big fan of the removable pocket clip. I am pretty clumsy and have gotten the clip caught on various things and bent out of shape and it is very easy to take the clip off, bend it back, and then put it back on.

One of the things that I’m not particularly fond of is the FRN handle. The FRN just flexes a little to much for my liking, especially around the pivot pin. I would love this knife with some good G10 handle scales or something similar.

Like I said earlier, it has held up to three years of constant hard use. The only damage to it has been when I foolishly tried to pry some nails out of a wooden pallet for a beach bonfire and broke the tip off.

Overall it is of high enough quality to be carried everyday and hold up to the constant use (and sometimes abuse) that comes with daily carry. It is also inexpensive enough that if it disappeared out of my luggage or gets left somewhere it won’t hurt too bad.

Keep up the good fight

After reading this, I decided to go check out SpyderCo’s other products. I now have a Spyderco P’Kal C103G with an Emerson Opening feature on it’s way to me.
I’m really looking forward to having a great quality knife for defensive carry.

    • That is a cool looking knife, let me know how you like it.
